A circuit breaker that trips repeatedly does not necessarily mean the breaker itself is defective, though it can occasionally happen due to an internal thermal-magnetic fatigue failure. In the vast majority of cases, a tripping breaker is actively doing its job by responding to a genuine electrical problem downstream, such as a severely overloaded circuit from running too many high-draw appliances simultaneously, a direct short circuit, or a ground fault. You can troubleshoot tripping breakers safely by disconnecting loads. You can verify whether the breaker is faulty by clamping an ammeter to measure current draw; if total amperage is safely below the breaker rating and it still trips instantly, the breaker is bad and must be replaced by a qualified electrician.
