An unremarried widow or widower of a veteran can qualify for USAA insurance and retain full membership benefits, provided their late spouse was an active USAA member during their lifetime. Surviving spouses who maintained or established their accounts during the marriage keep their eligibility intact as long as they do not remarry outside the military community.
