A United States citizen visiting or temporarily residing in the United Kingdom does not receive 100% free healthcare across all services. While emergency treatment administered in an NHS Accident and Emergency (A&E) department is generally free for anyone, non-residents are billed for admitted hospital inpatient care, non-emergency treatments, and routine GP visits unless covered by reciprocal international agreements. Long-term residents pay a mandatory Immigration Health Surcharge.
