Under current National Basketball Association and National Basketball Players Association collective bargaining agreement rules, a player must be at least nineteen years old during the calendar year of the draft and must be at least one year removed from high school graduation to be eligible for selection. Consequently, a seventeen-year-old high school student is strictly ineligible to enter the NBA draft directly, requiring players to complete developmental years in college, overseas leagues, or the G League.
