Medically necessary surgeries performed in public hospitals for eligible residents under provincial healthcare plans (Medicare) are completely free of charge at the point of service. However, elective or cosmetic procedures that are not deemed medically necessary by provincial guidelines—as well as specialized dental surgeries or private clinic interventions—are not covered by public health insurance and require private payment or out-of-pocket funding.
